‘Unfair’ MCG pitch has ‘done too much’ – Vaughan

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has criticized the pitch at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), calling it “unfair” and saying that it has “done too much” for the bowlers.

Speaking after the second day of the Boxing Day Test between Australia and England, Vaughan expressed his frustration with the conditions, which he believes have made batting extremely difficult.

“The pitch at the MCG is not good enough for Test cricket,” Vaughan said. “It’s so tough for the batters that it’s becoming a lottery out there.”

Vaughan’s comments come after several players struggled to score runs on the pitch, with both teams struggling to build large partnerships.

The former cricketer also questioned the methods used to prepare the pitch, suggesting that it may have been over-prepared.

“I think the groundstaff have gone too far in trying to produce a result wicket,” Vaughan said. “It’s unfair on the players and it’s not good for the game.”

Despite the challenging conditions, Vaughan praised the efforts of the bowlers on both sides, who he believes have adapted well to the pitch.

However, he reiterated his belief that the pitch has made batting too difficult, calling for a more balanced contest between bat and ball.

“Test cricket is about skill and technique, not just survival,” Vaughan added. “The MCG pitch needs to be better for the remainder of the match.”

As the match continues, all eyes will be on the pitch and how it affects the outcome of the test, with Vaughan’s criticisms sure to spark further debate.
